The Ford-owned Swedish car maker Volvo is developing an all new replacement for the company’s top of the line model S 80. It is scheduled for launch at next spring’s Geneva Motor Show 06.
These photos are showing latest prototypes during cold weather testing Northern Scandinavia.
The new S 80 is using a stretched version of Ford’s C1 platform with the choice of front- and four-wheel-drive. Within the pictured test group there were four prototypes, all of them equipped with different fuel engines:
- License plate XBX 171 – four cylinder engine / 163 HP
- License plate XDA 109 – five-cylinder engine / 209 HP
- License plate XFY 985 - six- cylinder engine / 272 HP
- License plate XDA 104 is the top of the line model, and has a V8 engine delivering 299 HP, and four wheel drive
The new Volvo will also get a new safety system kit called Co-Driver. It includes radar sensors and audible collision warnings linked to the Brake Assist. If a collision is imminent, it will apply extra braking pressure, tighten the seatbelts for optimum restraint and prepare the airbags for deployment.
