Prologue LMS: This Racy Audi Concept was Born for the Track

Different concept cars evoke different reactions from whomever they touch—some strong, some not. For Matheus Lazarini, the Audi Prologue concept that showcased at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, was one of the former.  It boasted a 600 horsepower V8, updated styling that reimagines the Audi brand, and levels of luxury that can go punch for punch with the uber-luxe Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Even so, Lazarini tells us that he immediately began pondering racing versions of the svelte coupe. Whereas that would be the extent of dreaming for most, it wasn’t for Lazarini. He’s an automotive designer from Brazil and he put his skills to work to whip up this sleek racing concept, what he calls the Audi Prologue LMS. It’s quite the looker, no? In addition to its Prologue origins, Lazarini’s Prologue LMS concept blends the visual histories of the Audi marque, and shows a rather distinct familial resemblance. Look close and you’ll see racing inspiration from the legendary Audi Sport Quattro rally car, the recent Audi TT Clubsport Turbo, and the storming Audi R8 LMS race car. And like its racing world compatriots, the Prologue LMS sheds significant weight and adds improved aerodynamics in its transition from show car to track car. Of course, the Audi Prologue LMS is still a figment of the digital world, nevertheless Lazarini has pondered the concept’s power plant and drivetrain. “The engine I thought of was something close to what was proposed in the Audi Prologue Piloted Driving concept,” says Lazarini, which combined twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor to create a hybrid setup with 677 horsepower. Let’s go racing, indeed.

Time will tell if Audi’s Prologue concept becomes the future A9 coupe it was widely rumored to foreshadow. Nonetheless, it certainly has a global fan following that still fancy the idea, even going on two years later.
