Bodie Stroud's Mind-Blowing 1963 Ford Galaxie Boasts 800HP
Bodie Stroud is best known for creating incredible custom restorations of American classics. Sometimes over the top, but mostly beautiful. His latest effort is this subtly revamped 1963 Ford Galaxie, which will appear in an upcoming episode of American Restoration. Aside from an absolutely clean exterior finish, this 1963.5 Ford Galaxie 500XL R-code now boasts an SOHC 7.0-liter Ford V8 engine so powerful it was banned from competition. The Ford 427 puts out 800 horsepower (!) and is known as the "90 Day Wonder." RELATED: Bodie Stroud's X-100 Pickup is a Thing of Power and Beauty
The nickname comes from the 90 days it took to build the engine back in the 1960s with the intent of using it for NASCAR. Despite all their hard work, NASCAR head Bill France vetoed the idea and the engine was instead used in drag racing.
Stroud is also hand-making a steel Thunderbolt hood scoop and adding plenty of additional performance enhancements. The Galaxie will have Brembo brakes, MagnaFlow mufflers, Nitto tires, and BSI custom suspension components. You can see how the project came together on American Restoration, this Friday, March 11 at 9ET on History.
