At the recent Detroit Motor Show, the Ford-owned Volvo had a concept car of the upcoming new C 30 on display. Here are now photos of the production version in cold weather testing near the Arctic Circle on a frozen lake.
The C 30 is an all new three door car the size of a VW Golf to be built on Ford’s C 1 global small-car platform, which is also being used for the Ford Focus, Volvo S 40 and V 50 wagon. However, the C 30 will be about 8 inches shorter than i.e. the S 40 sedan.
The C 30’s power is said to come from a twin-cam four-cylinder engine, although Volvo is also looking for hybrid powertrains. The pictured prototype is equipped with a four cylinder 136 Diesel engine.
C 30 will become a competitor against cars like Audi A3, BMW Series 1, VW Golf.
Introduction of the new model is schedule for the Paris Motor Show in fall 2006, production should begin late next summer at Ford’s Gent plant in Belgium.
