The 2016 Ducati draXter is One Lean, Mean Birthday Gift

Break out the candles, napkins, and cake—Ducati turns 90 years young in 2016, and the Italian bike builder has wasted no time kicking off the celebrations. Meet part one of its yearlong birthday bash… the sensuous Ducati draXter Unveiled at the 2016 Motor Bike Expo of Verona, the draXter is a hardcore drag racing variant of Ducati’s all-new XDiavel, which in itself is a sultry mix of cruiser and sport bike. However, as can be seen from the draXter’s athletic and low-slung physique, Ducati’s centro stile has skimmed off much of that laid back “cruiser” look once again. The end result is mean, stunningly gorgeous, quintessentially Ducati, and well… not for sale. It’s a concept. RELATED: Take a Closer Look at the 2016 Ducati draXter Concept

According to Gianandrea Fabbro, who is responsible for Advanced Design at Ducati Design Center, the draXter project is intended to demonstrate the customization possibilities of the new XDiavel structure. “Custom” is surely the right word too, the draXter looks a far cry from the cruiser that birthed it, despite the fact that its frame, swing-arm, and tank are identical to the standard XDiavel. You wouldn’t be wrong if you detected a hint of superbike DNA mixed in as well. The draXter nicks its front suspension and brakes from the current Ducati Panigale. “To put it metaphorically,” says Fabbro, “the draXter is like a sort of short circuit applied to the XDiavel world.” RELATED: Check Out this Very Unique "Ducati Dustbin" Special

No word was given as to the concept bike’s performance figures, but the standard XDiavel offers up a potent Testastretta DVT 1262cc two-cylinder, with 156 horsepower and 95 lb.-ft. of torque up for grabs. With its new racy setup, this ex-cruiser ought to wring out every last one of those Italian thoroughbred horsepowers on track. Looking to buy one? Don’t hold your breath. Then again, maybe if we all scream “build it!” loud enough, Ducati will hear us. RELATED: Retro Honda Motorcycles Don't Get Much Prettier Than This!
