Don’t Be An American Idiot, Buy Billie Joe Armstrong’s Rockin’ Retro Beetle
Please excuse the cheesy title, but we couldn’t help ourselves when we found out this beautiful Beetle you see in front of you was owned by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. We say ‘was’ because his pristine bug is getting ready to cross the auction block at the end of the month. According to Silodrome, Billie Joe’s Beetle will be heading to Bonhams in Scottsdale on January 28th. Early estimates have it going for somewhere between $30,000-$35,000. A little pricey considering Hagerty's estimates a Beetle like this to be only around $10,900, but with its ties to rock and roll, the markup doesn't seem ridiculous. It was restored sometime between 2008-2009 to the state you see here, with a simple gloss black exterior finish and period-correct red vinyl interior. It was so beautifully finished, in fact, that it won a number of awards before being taken home by the Green Day frontman.
After Billie Joe owned it for a number of years, it switched hands one last time, to the current owner who’s putting it up for auction. So if you're looking for a classic Beetle, or maybe just a handsome piece of rock memorabilia, this might be the perfect purchase for you.
