Vin Diesel Reveals "Fast 8" Teaser Photo on Instagram
Despite the tragic loss of actor Paul Walker in 2013, the box office juggernaut that is the Fast and Furious series shows no sign of slowing down as details emerge about the film series’ eighth installment, now known as Fast 8. On Instagram, F&F lead actor Vin Diesel released the first official photo from the new film, revealing a serene New York City skyline at dusk and the headline “New Roads Ahead.” While the original film was set squarely in downtown Los Angeles, the latter films have sampled different locales around the world, including Tokyo, London, Rio de Janeiro, and Abu Dhabi. It’s still unclear how much of the film will feature New York City as its backdrop, however it’s expected to be a significant portion. In an October interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Vin Diesel mentioned that the origins for the entire franchise are actually rooted in New York City, rather than the series’ enduring Los Angeles setting.
"Something that people don't know is the first movie came from a Vibe article that was about street racers in New York,” noted Diesel. “The director and the producer at the time reset the whole movie in L.A., but the Vibe article that the whole franchise was started from actually originated in New York.”
“So we’re finally bringing it back.”
Diesel, who has portrayed character Dominic Toretto in six of the seven films, will reprise his role in Fast 8, which is directed by F. Gary Gray. Fast 8 is understood to be the first of three final Fast and Furious movies, and it will roar its way into theaters in April 2017.
