Hennessey Gives the Shelby GT350 Mustang Even More Power

At what point does “enough horsepower” become…well, too much? If you ask Texas tuner John Hennessey, there’s no such thing as “too much” horsepower.  That little tidbit helps explain why Hennessey recently turned the leanest, meanest Mustang of modern day into an even more brutal prizefighter—yes, the all-new Shelby GT350 Mustang. From the gates, Ford Performance has loaded up the square-jawed Shelby with a potent 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. That would be enough for most muscle car palates, but apparently not enough for all. A new Hennessey “HPE575” package cranks that engine output up to 575 horsepower and 511 lb-ft of twist, but most importantly, it does so without the complications of forced induction. No twin-turbos or raucous superchargers to be seen here. RELATED: Watch a 774-HP Hennessey Ford Mustang Hit 207 MPH

Instead, this GT350 Mustang swallows a new stainless steel exhaust system, which tacks on 1.75-inch long-tube headers, a new mid-pipe section, and high-flow catalytic converters. With the help of an engine management tune, the 5.2-liter “Voodoo” V8 at the Shelby’s snout now exhales easier, but no word on straight-line performance just yet from those extra 49 ponies. The package accompanies a few requisite “Hennessey” badges inside and out, as well as a serialized number plaque. Only 100 cars will be so equipped. Looking to spot one? Best check a track—the GT350 was bred to race. The free-breathing Shelby isn’t the only new pony in this stable, though. For those who are looking to turn tires into goo, Hennessey will also affix a 2.9-liter supercharger and some other go-fast goodies to the new GT350 Mustang—all in the name of 808 horsepower. Yikes. Zero to 60 mph? Just 3.3 seconds. RELATED: The 1,451-HP Hennessey Venom GT is Now a Convertible Visit the BoldRide shop to pick up your own limited edition Boss 302 tee!
