The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015

Embracing tuner culture is at the heart of our coverage of cars, old and new. There are so many small shops out there creating bold designs, and any time we can bring a little-known custom ride to the forefront, we’ve done our job. But once a year we show you the misguided, ugly, and aesthetically tone-deaf. Here are some of the worst custom cars from the last year, so when you make that first million, you'll know where NOT so spend your money. AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 ACZ4 5.0d

RELATED: See more images of the AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 ACZ4 5.0d Look, this BMW Z4 is actually pretty awesome, featuring a six-cylinder diesel engine with three turbos. It makes 423 horsepower and 619 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty bonkers. But the ACZ4 falls flat where so many tuners do- on the looks. This car is ruined by the paint job that makes the custom Z4 look like a set of demo skis. Scion iA "Lowrider"
The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
The Scion iA is not a particularly fetching car in stock form. One would think the first order of business in creating a custom ride is to make the car more visually appealing. This iA goes very much in the other direction with gold wire wheels, whitewall tires and a face only a mother could love. Brabus Mercedes-Benz S65 Rocket 900
The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
The exterior of the Rocket 900 isn't all that offensive. The application of carbon fiber vents and fins is just a bit more excessive than we’d like. It's the interior of this car that has our retinas burning. The black and gold cabin is just the absolute height of gaudy styling. The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
This particular custom Mini snuck in right at the end of the year. Created by Vilner for a Chinese actress whose motto is “Success can be limitless, just like the universe.” We’re not sure if that saying applies to taste in any way. Porsche Cayenne Magnum by TechArt
The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
Grafting the timeless Porsche design cues of its sports cars onto a small SUV to create the Macan took all manner of craftsmanship and restraint. That all goes out the window with the over-the-top body kit from TechArt, which trades restraint for vehicular cubism. Carlsson Mercedes-Benz C550 Versailles
The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
One unique thing about the latest batch of Mercedes-Benz sedan and coupe designs is that the long flowing lines make for big swoops along the belt-line. What better way to draw attention to these crisp styling cues than with a massive sparkling gold wrap across the middle. According to Carlsson’s press release, the C550 Versailles was “specifically developed for China’s ultra-wealthy ‘Taipan’ clients; the new ‘royalty’ of the Middle Kingdom.” Clearly this car was designed for those with more money than taste. The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
There’s nothing more offensive to a truck or Jeep owner than when one of these capable, utilitarian off-road vehicles is turned into a show car. This custom Jeep Wrangler might have a proper lift, but has big 21-inch blue-and-white Vellano wheels. Sure they are wrapped in off-road tires, but you need a lot more meat on those tires to go off-roading. And an all white front off-road bumper? Good luck trying to avoid getting that thing scratched. This Wrangler will not be receiving any “Jeep Waves.” Forgiato Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The all-gold wrap is horrendous, and screams “I’m for show, and not to actually drive.” The Corvette is the common-man’s supercar, and thus any version should be allowed to stretch its legs on the track. This car is destined for a life of driving 10 mph in front of a Miami club. Novitec Rosso Ferrari California T N-Largo
The Worst Custom Tuner Cars of 2015
Once again, this is actually a pretty solid tune when it comes to the mechanicals, but it falls flat on the looks. The output is bumped from the stock 560 horsepower up to 668, and it gets some decent vents added on, but its the wheels. The color-keyed red outlines on the all black wheels are pretty horrendous looking. Just one little thing, and the look is blown.
