Wimmer Made the KTM X-Bow Even Meaner With 375HP

If you’re in the market for a potent no-holds-barred track car, you’d be inclined to bark up the KTM X-Bow R’s tree. With 300 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque, and only 1,740 pounds to lug around—it’s hardly a slouch, but German tuner Wimmer Rennsporttechnik thought it could do better, and it would appear it has.  This is the eye-catching result, the 2015 Wimmer KTM X-Bow R Limited Edition, which cranks up the car’s horsepower by nearly a third and slashes tenths out of its launch to 60 miles per hour. It doesn’t come cheap, however. Wimmer—also a German retailer for X-Bows—says it will only equip three cars as such, and has priced the teeny trio at an eye-watering €100,000 ($107,000 at today’s rates). So what do you get for your hard earned dollars or euros? For one, you’ll find the same turbocharged Audi four-cylinder engine tucked in the X-Bow R, but now it has been tuned to a heady 375 horsepower. A six-speed manual gearbox still finds a home in the car though the gear ratios are said to have been adjusted, helping this track car sprint to 60 mph in a brisk 3.3 seconds. In addition to gearing, the car’s powertrain has also been fitted with a racing-spec water pump and fuel pump, as well as Wimmer’s own stainless steel high performance exhaust, helping the 2.0-liter Audi engine to breathe a bit easier. On the outside, the limited edition Wimmer X-Bow R boasts a substantially large carbon fiber rear wing, new front splitter, and a new aluminum undertray to keep the KTM plastered to the road. Like the standard KTM X-Bow R, there’s really not much in the way of interior amenities, but Wimmer does say it can outfit the car with Recaro racing seats and a leather steering wheel. If you need one though, you better hurry. Despite the six-digit price for such a featherweight car, these three 380-horsepower X-Bows probably won’t hang around for too long.
