Game of Thrones' Tywin Lannister Drives a Ford Mustang
A few years ago, you could say the words "Game of Thrones" and pique the interest of only the most involved of TV watchers. Today, that’s not so much the case. The HBO series has become a ratings juggernaut, commands a legion of fans, and has even eclipsed The Sopranos in viewership. If for some reason you’ve always wanted to know what type of car actor Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) drives while off the set—and why wouldn’t you?—well, here’s the answer. A 1967 Ford Mustang convertible. The Game of Thrones star purchased the pony car in 2002, and in December Dance’s red Mustang will cross the block at the Classic Car Auctions sale in the UK—expected to bring between £25,000 and £30,000 ($38,000 to $46,000). According to the auction house, Dance’s—or should we say, Lannister’s—pony car wasn’t just some weekend play thing. The British actor is said to have driven the car regularly from 2002 all the way up until 2013, at which point he decided to give the Mustang a full restoration.
Out went the old and in went a new set of floor pans, brakes and lines, and a fully rebuilt 289 cu. in. V8, among other modifications. A lustrous red respray was applied to the bare metal body, finished off with a new cream convertible top and a matching red interior with leather seats…erm, thrones. The restoration concluded in August but now Dance is parting ways with his beloved Ford.

“We’re privileged to be able to offer this car and sell it on behalf of Charles,” said Guy Lees-Milne, Classic Car Auctions general manager. “This is a beautiful example of the iconic Ford Mustang, and combined with its celebrity connections we expect a lot of interest.”
Bidding to assume this throne kicks off on December 5th.
