GreaseMonkey App Lets Drivers Find Best Local Repair Prices
When something breaks on your car, it can be a real pan in the behind. You never plan on your shocks or brakes wearing out, or can never foresee when a head gasket blows. And such work might not be covered under your warranty or maintenance plan. For many reasons, these kinds of jobs can be a headache, but one company is looking to make things easier. Stephan Walkers had become fed up with what he perceived as a racket that takes advantage of consumers that don’t know anything about cars. He responded by creating an app called GreaseMonkey, that connects drivers with small-and-medium repair businesses. RELATED: Smartphone App Improves Driver Behavior, Calls 911 in a Crash
Users of the app can see all those shops in the area, and see which shops perform which types of repair services as well as pricing breakdowns. The users can also see of those shops have any types of deals or promotions. Folks can send messages and pictures to the shops to get a better deal on pricing and how long a repair job might take.
The focus was on medium-to-small businesses because they were the most likely to benefit from such a service. Larger shops might have an internet outreach department, and this allows those smaller shops to enjoy a similar service.

The app is currently only in District of Columbia and Atlanta, but as of the original report from The Root this weekend, it had 1000 locations. That’s up from just 500 a few weeks ago. Walters wants to expand this to a national service. How this app performs in helping both drivers and small shops in these first two cities will determine if it expands to the rest of the country.
