Classic Cars Take Center Stage at Hilton Head Island

Torrential rains may have marked the beginning of October in South Carolina, but a slew of vintage and classic cars will end the month on a high note at Hilton Head Island.  The annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance returns on October 3oth and will celebrate a number of automotive milestones in its 14th year running. The Chrysler brand is set to be featured as the festival’s honored marque of 2015, providing a backdrop for iconic Plymouth, Dodge, and DeSoto models across the festival weekend. Vehicles will also be on display celebrating BMW’s centenary, 60 years of the Ford Thunderbird, and five decades of the Shelby Cobra. And for those who fondly reminisce ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s Americana…General Motors has opened its Heritage Collection to display two classic vehicles at the event—a 1951 GMC Canopy Express and a 1945 GMC Sinclair Tanker truck, pictured below. The pair of GMC workhorses highlight the festival’s new “Life in the Suburbs” exhibit, which remembers American car culture of the 1940s through 1960s, a time of hot-rodding, drive-throughs, and drive-in movies. Other classic cars on display in the suburban showcase include a ’66 Volkswagen 21-Window bus, 1950 Ford Business Coupe, DIVCO Milk Truck, as well as this cheery 1947 Crosley Ice Cream Truck, pictured below, provided by Auctions America president Donnie Gould. Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, will bring along a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster Sedan Delivery. RELATED: See What Makes the Pebble Beach Concours so Special
