Jeep Renegade Rumored for Trackhawk Performance Package
The Jeep product range has been the focus of intense rumor-mongering in recent years, with such hot topics as a Jeep Wrangler pickup and most recently a Hellcat V8-powered Grand Cherokee—known as the “Trackhawk.” Neither have been officially confirmed, though Fiat Chrysler currently holds the trademark for the “Trackhawk" name, giving credence to that story. Now, a new rumor is swirling, suggesting the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk won’t be alone. According to a source at the JeepTrackHawk forums, a Jeep Renegade Trackhawk will follow in the footsteps of its big brother, purportedly in time for the 2018 model year. Though not officially confirmed, the track-tuned Renegade is rumored to affix a turbocharger to its larger 2.4-liter engine, producing upwards of 300 horsepower. All-wheel drive would likely come standard on the heady model.
From a model positioning standpoint, the move would make sense. Today’s car buyers can’t seem to get enough of compact crossovers. An additional drive towards smaller and sportier models could burgeon the hot-selling Jeep lineup even further.
Stay tuned for updates.
