Police Issue Parking Ticket to a Mercedes Art Exhibit
It doesn’t take a trained eye to spot something unique about this picture. This is no ordinary Mercedes flatbed truck. Rather, it’s an art installation created by Austrian sculptor Erwin Wurm, which is currently on display at the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. And it was recently the recipient of its very own parking ticket. Sort of. Late last week, a parking ticket appeared on the bendy Mercedes MB100D, and the citation garnered quite some attention on Facebook after the ZKM shared photos of the fine. The ZKM also included a note, confirming the ticket’s authenticity and later writing, “Mr. Erwin Wurm, do you accept that, or do we?” RELATED: This Ferrari FF is a 208 MPH Moving Piece of Custom Artwork
As it turns out, the parking ticket was nothing more than a joke between the Karlsruhe police and the Center for Art and Media. “This was meant by the colleagues from the outset as a joke,” a city spokesperson confirmed on Monday to German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel. The officer printed and issued the parking ticket on Friday, but deleted the citation immediately afterward.
If anything, this is validation of a job well done on the part of Wurm – people engaging art in a public space.
