The Hot Wheels Tesla Model S is the Cheapest Way To Pay Elon Musk
Remember when every surface of a room was a racetrack? You'd have two cars, one in each hand, chasing each other over the back of the couch up onto the wall, then somehow launching off into space only to land on the coffee table and get stuck in the tar pit of sticky glass left from your Kool-Aid Jammer. Back then, no kids were thinking about what those toys ran on, they were simply fueled by imagination. Today, though, those Hot Wheels are getting an increase in voltage. Mattel is officially launching a Hot Wheels Tesla Model S, and the famous toy automobile company added a little extra flair to Elon Musk's baby. The Model S is a fine-looking car, but it needed to be a bit more attention-grabbing for the children. So, the Hot Wheels Workshop spiced it up a bit with an edgier body kit, a spoiler, a rear diffuser, and some cool new rims that even pucker up with red lips. The toy, a 1/64th scale model, is now available around the world and will cost you $1.09. According to the Detroit Free Press, Hot Wheels and Tesla have been working together since 2007, but this particular toy was developed throughout the past nine months.
As for Tesla, it's currently fighting off rumors that its Model 3 lineup is further getting pushed back. According to Inside EVs, the much more affordable long-range electric vehicle won't becoming until 2018. Tesla employees, however, maintain that the car will be shown in 2016 and hit showrooms for sale in 2017.
