This Custom Land Rover is One Tribute Car You’ll Actually Want

Generally speaking, a tribute is never quite as good as the real thing. But a tribute of a tribute? Well, now you’re on to something, and in a roundabout way that’s effectively what this gorgeous Land Rover Discovery is.  It recalls the styling and persona of Land Rovers that were campaigned in the company’s own G4 Challenge… itself commonly referred to as the spiritual successor to the legendary Camel Trophy event. A tribute to a tribute. And if it catches your eye – you’re in luck. It’s currently seeking new adventurees on eBay. RELATED: Take a Closer Look at the 2015 Land Rover Discovery

Peel back the off-roady bits and what you have is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery. The current seller notes that the 4x4’s G4 Challenge transformation began at the hands of the previous owner, who cut the entire rear section off the top of the car, leaving a pickup-style bed in the back. A steel partition was erected behind the front seats, separating cabin from bed, and both sections were treated to a thorough dose of bedliner. While a lion’s share of Land Rovers eke out a living as urban family shufflers, the Discovery truly has outstanding off-road prowess. This G4 tribute is no different. The suspension has been lightly overhauled with heavy duty springs and shocks, and now complements a roll cage, fabricated bumpers front and rear, skid plates, rock sliders, and – of particular mention – an aluminum roof rack and tent. If there is one rub, the seller does note the Discovery once had a salvage title from a pre-build accident. Admittedly, it now looks to be in fairly good health, and with only 79,000 miles on the clock too. The ill-fated Land Rover G4 Challenge met its end before the start of the 2009 event, which was scheduled for Mongolia. Anyone up for a re-start?
