Both Drivers Somehow Safe After This Huge Rally Car Crash
In motor racing, the smallest of mistakes can spell disaster. Throw into the mix the complexities of dirt, gravel, massive jumps, plus blind corners, and the sport of rallying necessitates pinpoint precision to the nth degree. Need proof? Rally driver Jari Ketomaa and co-driver Kaj Lindstrom crested the "Salto de Lameirinha" jump on stage 14 of the Rally de Portugal, slightly too far to the left. After quite a long time airborne, the pair’s Ford Fiesta rally car lands further down the road and the left front wheel clips a ditch, sending the car once again up into the air and onto its nose. As the video shows, it was a seriously big impact. Emergency crews rushed to the scene immediately after the crash, and luckily both Finnish drivers emerged unscathed. The Fiesta didn’t fare so well, now showing significant damage to its front end. Volkswagen racer Jari-Matti Latvala would go on to take the overall win in his 2015 VW Polo rally car, just ahead of teammate Sebastien Ogier.
