2016 Chevrolet Camaro Unveiled With New Look, Loads of Power

The teasers are over— and this, ladies and gentleman, is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. Although it might not have arrived with that bang you were hoping for, the evolutionary new look gives off enough of a pop to keep things interesting. The front end has been subtly redesigned, keeping many of the similar lines you saw in the fifth-gen Camaro. The overall design gets slightly more “athletic-looking,” according to Chevrolet. Although it is clearly still a Camaro, it’s pretty plain to see the general direction Chevy is heading in with its entire lineup (gaping grille, small headlights, etc). For 2016, Chevrolet is introducing the Camaro with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That smaller engine goes well with the new Alpha platform pulled from the ATS— though, Chevrolet is quick to point out that more than 70 percent of that platform is unique to Camaro. Not to mention it's more than 200 pounds lighter than the ATS platform. It’s the first time a Camaro has received that feature (for good reason). And then there’s the big dog; the most powerful Camaro SS Chevy has ever built. With a 6.2-liter LT1 V8, the new SS (seen in the top photo) pushes out a monstrous 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Chevy hasn't announced plans for a new Z/28 (yet), but we'll keep our fingers crossed.
