Watch the 717HP Hennessey Mustang Exercise on Track
The all-new 2015 Mustang GT is already a properly good pony car, what with its howling 5.0-liter Coyote V8, 435 horsepower on tap, knockout looks, and revised suspension. But many good things can be made better, and if power output is of your concern – Hennessey Performance has an answer. It comes in the form of the Texas tuner's HPE700 kit, complete with 2.9-liter supercharger, which vaults horsepower up to 717 and torque up to 632 lb-ft. That puts it right in the same league as the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, effectively the benchmark for today's muscle performance. But as you'll see, the Hennessey upgrade might give you more bang for your performance buck. Take a look. VIDEO: Watch Hennessey rocket the 2015 Mustang GT up to 195mph
According to Hennessey's dyno readings, the Hellcat is said to regularly put up rear wheel power figures in the 620 to 630 horsepower range. By comparison, the blown 5.0-liter Mustang allegedly develops around 25 to 30 horsepower more at the wheels. In a lighter car, that should mean nippier runs through the gears and precious seconds saved around a track. It also sounds like quite the screamer.
Zero to 60 mph takes just 3.6 seconds, and the quarter mile gets put to bed in 11.2 ticks of the second hand. The cost? Only $59,500... which includes the price of the base Mustang GT (all tallied up, a few hundred bucks less than the Hellcat). But don't expect to see these on all your friends' new Mustangs. Hennessey says there are only 500 kits to go around for 2015.
