Porsche Might Make its 385HP Cayman GT4 Even More Hardcore

Every car fan wishes for the day when he or she voices an opinion to an automaker, and the firm delivers on the idea. Porsche recently delivered on fan requests for a hot-hot Porsche Cayman, the 2016 Cayman GT4, and according to EVO, Stuttgart might be reasoned into making it even more extreme.  That is, as long as the customers demand it. The magazine spoke with Porsche Motorsport executive Andreas Preuninger at the Geneva Motor Show. “This is just the beginning of the era," Preuninger said. "I would be interested in doing a Cayman GT4 RS version, but at the moment, we didn't even talk about such a thing. If the customers call for something like this, we could think about it.” RELATED: See more photos of the 2016 Cayman GT4 The newly released Cayman GT4 begins to blur the lines between Porsche' heritage rear-engine 911 and its youthful mid-engine Cayman. The GT4 sports the 385 horsepower flat-six engine from the 911 Carrera S as well as a significant amount of chassis components from the very hardcore 911 GT3. As Porsche does with its GT3 and GT3 RS models in the 911 range, an 'RS' version of the GT4 presents opportunities for further weight reduction and increased engine output. According to Preuninger, Porsche wildly underestimated the appeal of the totted-up Cayman, which helped Porsche fill orders for nearly two years worth of cars in the UK, Sweden, Germany, and other markets. If Porsche is looking to fill another year of orders, the GT4 RS looks to be ripe example of how to do it. Though given the current Cayman GT4's retail price at $84,600, the 'RS' would take another bold leap toward 911 pricing.
