McLaren's 986HP P1 GTR Has Officially Arrived

Until now, every teaser and rendering of McLaren's vaunted track-only hypercar – the P1 GTR – has been a concept. That however is no longer an issue, because what you see before you is its finalized production appearance. If you've got a standard P1 road car and over $3 million sitting in the bank, this one could be yours.  While there are few nut-and-bolt physical differentiations between this production P1 GTR and its previous GTR concept, the most obvious visual difference is its livery, which pays homage to the iconic yellow-and-green Harrods McLaren F1 GTR #06R, which campaigned successfully in the 1995 and 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans. As such, this limited production version generates 986 horsepower from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and electric motor, sports a widened front track, and adds some new aerodynamic trickery along with a new fixed drag-reduction-enabled wing. All totaled, the P1 GTR slots in at around 110 pounds lighter than the standard car, boasts 83 horsepower more than the P1, and at speeds of 150 mph its aerodynamics pull down a total of 1,455 pounds of downforce...or about the same weight of a Lotus Elan.
