Watch this Tesla P85D Out-Accelerate a Ferrari 458
Seemingly forever, the Nissan GT-R has been the ultimate everyday supercar for its ability to trounce competitors in a straight line; bear in mind, those exotic competitors can cost over two to three times as much. But app developer and supercar aficionado Allen Wong is quickly proving that the GT-R is so old news – it's all about the all-electric 691 horsepower Tesla Model S P85D. Wong successfully out-sprinted a Ferrari 575M earlier this month, as well as his own 691-horsepower Lamborghini Aventador, and now it's time for the vaunted Ferrari 458 Italia. So Wong rang up the lead singer of ATTILA, enlisted his 570-horsepower 458, and the pair lined up at what is now becoming quite a memorable stretch of roadway. According to Wong, the quarter-mile stretch ends just after the highway overpass, which would mean that the mighty Tesla came away with a victory on two out of the three passes. Like his previous outing against the Aventador, the P85D absolutely leaps ahead of the Italian supercar, until late in the run when the torquey EV runs low on oomph and Ferrari's 4.5-liter V8 hits its stride. Wong confirms that the Ferrari was set to 'Race' mode, while the Tesla was dialed in to 'Insane'.
Wong famously bought the Tesla Model S P85D as a Christmas present for his mother, though considering all the racing he has gotten out of it, we wouldn't be surprised if he picked up another one for himself.
