Watch a Tractor Trailer Jump a Lotus F1 Car
2014 hadn’t been the season for Lotus. The team netted only 10 points, encountered numerous drivetrain gremlins, and ended the year in eighth place (a far cry from last year’s inspiring fourth). But that didn’t stop the Enstone, UK-based Formula 1 team from having a little bit of fun to close off the season. And by fun, we mean jumping a tractor-trailer over an F1 car. EMC Corporation, one of Lotus’ main sponsors and technology partners, thought up the feat and enlisted stunt drivers Mike Ryan (of the Pikes Peak Freightliner fame) and Martin Ivanov (stunt double in the Bourne series) to execute the tall order. We’re pleased to say they executed it perfectly. After months and months of planning, Ryan leaped the Renault F1 transport truck over the top of Ivanov in the Lotus E21, in the process launching EMC and Lotus into the Guinness World Record books with a jump distance of 83 feet and seven inches.
At this point we would normally say, “Don’t try this at home.” But we somehow doubt you have access to both an F1 car and an F1 team transporter, which by the looks of it, won’t be shuttling around any racecars any time soon.
