Three More 'Fast and Furious' Films Possible, Too Many?
If you’ve seen the trailer for the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, Furious 7, you’ll know that the street racing series has come a long way from its roots and lost none of its high-octane action in the process. However, the tragic death of series superstar Paul Walker cast doubts earlier this year as to whether the series would continue. According to a recent interview with Universal Studios executives, we might get more F&F than we bargained for. In a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios chairman Donna Langley suggested that as many as three additional Fast and Furious movies could yet be coming our way – bringing the total output to 10. “Paul is, and always will be, an integral part of the story,” mentions Langley. “But there are many other great characters, and it’s also an opportunity to introduce new characters. I think it’s still a growing franchise.”
Series fans will undoubtedly celebrate the news, but are 10 movies about three too many? Perhaps. Langley notes that Universal has seen significant domestic and international box office growth over the past four films. However, “we’re of course very mindful about fatigue.”
