Own a Unique Mercedes-Benz SL with a Big Power Boost

Owning a 1977 Mercedes-Benz SL is a sweet proposition in and of itself. But throw in a 6.9-liter engine and you’ve got a car that might be one-of-a-kind for what seems like not lots of money. A California seller on eBay has a 1977 SL-class two-door with hardtop and convertible for sale with that very proposition. It comes with the 6.9-liter cast iron V8 originally found in the 450 SEL sold from 1975 to 1981. In the four-door sedan it was rated at 250 horsepower with 360 lb.-ft. of torque. No telling what its horsepower rating is in the 1977 SL largely because it doesn’t run - and hasn’t for five years. The owner posts on eBay, “Car has not been driven for some time so tires are dry rotted, battery and fuel pump dead.” You have to admire the guy’s honesty. He’s upfront about the interior. “The interior was new with a 2 tone custom touch in 1995 but is now looking a little tired. The leather seats have always been covered so they still look perfect,” he writes. (And the seats do little pretty good from the photos.) RELATED: See Photos of a 1975 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL

The owner promises it “is the last true Mercedes sports car still having chrome bumpers and without the electronics. Also included in the sale  is a set of European front and rear bumpers, aluminum rear suspension and a LSD differential about 2.5 ratio. A metal cover for the fresh air blower is also included - plastic ones always break.” As of this writing, no one had met the minimum $10,000 bid. The owner does say he is advertising it elsewhere and could pull the car from eBay. Sounds like he may be having second thoughts, “If you like it do not hesitate as I may change my mind. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” Nothing worse than a fickle seller. ________________________________________ Click Here to See the Original Story on BoldRide
