Watch the Koenigsegg One:1 Race a Volvo Truck
Volvo vs. megacar. That’s not exactly the preface to your average race, especially when said Volvo is a long-haul truck. But Volvo has been working on its all-new I-Shift dual clutch gearbox, based on sports car technology, and it believes the truck transmission to be quite sporty. To prove it, British TV personality Tiff Needell jumped up in the Volvo FH’s cab and challenged Robert Serwanski, Koenigsegg’s factory test driver, to a race around the Knutstorp circuit: two laps for the Koenigsegg, one for the Volvo. On paper, it doesn’t look good for the Volvo. Koenigsegg’s One:1 develops a frankly astounding 1,360-horsepower and tips the scales at just 1,360 kg (about 3000 lbs.). The new Volvo FH is decidedly heavier, weighing in at eight tons, and slower, with just 540 horsepower on tap. But, as you’ll see in the video, there might be more sports car DNA in the Volvo than previously thought.
“I-Shift Dual Clutch is absolutely incredible,” says Needell. “It is particularly noticeable on slopes, the truck does not hold back – it just flows smoothly, without the gear changes being felt. When you brake, it switches down very softly and comfortably. The truck definitely has the heart of a sports car.”
So who wins? Watch the video to find out.
