Is a New Acura Integra Finally Coming Our Way?
The Acura Integra was once a hot car, but it's been absent and sorely missed for a while. But if you're pine for the Integra as much as we are, there might be some good news. Acura chief designer Dave Marek spoke to Car and Driver at SEMA and hinted that there was a good chance the Integra would be making a return to the roads in the next few years. Marek said, “A performance brand needs a flagship and it needs an accessible sport car. Not a sports car, but a sport car,” but the nearby PR rep kept him from spilling any more details. They've clearly got something planned and that something sounds a lot like the slot the Integra once filled. RELATED: See photos of the 2000 Acura Integra
He also acknowledged that the company has been busy trying to rebuild the Acura brand and bring back something of its former glory when it was an attainable performance car more than an aspirational luxury brand. There were both Integras and NSXs on display at SEMA with a new NSX coming out in 2015, but nothing confirmed on the Integra's fate.
Still, being trotted out for SEMA alongside the once discontinued NSX that is coming back seems to point in a good direction for the Integra. Whatever Acura has planned as its new sports car – make that sport car – will likely be a mystery for awhile yet, with Marek saying it'll be at least a few more years.
