Watch this BMW M5 Beat a Ferrari in a Drag Race
Conventional wisdom suggests that any factory-fresh performance car that goes up against a Ferrari – other than a select group of supercars – will lose. The Italian marque’s sportscar lineage is about as pedigreed as it gets, which is why this next video is causing such Internet controversy. The folks over at GTBOARD via Carscoops lined up a Ferrari FF with a BMW M5 F10 for a drag race, and the result isn’t exactly an expected one. Both cars zip through the rolling start, shoulder to shoulder, with the Ferrari holding somewhat of a head start. But before long, the M5 begins eating away at the FF’s lead and eventually pulls out a significant margin before it reaches its electronically limited 155mph top speed.
Statistically speaking, here’s why that shouldn’t happen. The Ferrari FF comes from the factory toting 651-horsepower and 504 lb-ft of torque from its 6.3-liter V12, as compared to the M5’s twin-turbo V8 which ekes out 560hp and 502 lb-ft. Add in the weight differential, a hefty 342 lbs. in favor of the FF, and it looks even more disparaging for the BMW.
This then appears to be no mere M5 F10. And many of the video’s comments rather hilariously seem to reflect the sentiment as well, citing its lowered ride height to go along with a suspected engine and turbo tune. What say you, Internets? BM win or M5 farce?
