1,200HP Pontiac Firebird Sells for Cheap at Chicago Auction

People regularly pay seven figures for cars that push out more than a thousand horsepower. But you’d be surprised to learn that one 1,200-horsepower Pontiac Firebird went to a loving home from Mecum’s Chicago Auction for a mere $87,000. That made it one of the cheapest cars of the lot. You should remember this car. It's a 1970 Firebird that features a twin-turbocharged V8 and comes with loads of modern performance enhancements. It was done up by All Speed Customs in Michigan, given to its original owner, and then handed over to Mecum for this past weekend’s festivities. Like a few other cars in the lot, the Firebird was expected to get somewhere near $100,000. But one very lucky new owner left Chicago paying the aforementioned $87,000 for this gorgeous machine. Which in auction prices is a total steal. At the same auction we saw two Ford GTs go for $635K combined, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda go for $185,000, and even an '86 Buick GNX raking in more than the Pontiac at $97,500.
