Ariel Atom 3S Gets Turbocharged, Goes Even Faster
It’s commonplace for an automaker to slap an ‘S’ badge on a car and suddenly call it faster. But when said company is TMI AutoTech, the official North American manufacturing arm of the Ariel Atom, its new badging is much deserved. Introducing the 2015 Atom 3S, North America’s latest turbocharged and face-warping iteration of the famed Atom, second only in speed and performance to its vaunted V8 grandfather. Not exactly a bad foot to start off on. For its latest offering, TMI has taken the competent Atom 3 two-seater and simply strapped in more power…a lot more. Honda’s 2.4-liter K24 four-cylinder engine carries over, but this time it’s turbocharged and fully intercooled to wallop output up to a burly 365 horsepower, 15 more than the non-USA Atom 3.5R.
Of course, putting that power down effectively is the calling card of the Atom, and the 3S shouldn’t disappoint. A new adjustable traction control system complements the Atom’s F1-style pushrod suspension, allowing for five modes of wheel slip adjustment for improved acceleration and stability. Alcon four-piston floating brakes at all four corners ensure that acceleration on the straights is met with firm stopping power in the bends.

Atom 3S owners will also be treated to a full glass windscreen, presumably to prevent your face from turning ‘round backwards. Underneath, buyers can opt between one of three transmission offerings – a standard or close-ratio six-speed gearbox, or a new Sadev six-speed paddle-shift sequential unit.
Sound like your cup of tea? You can make a 2015 Ariel Atom 3S yours for around $90,000. Or if that’s too pricy, you can order the current 230 horsepower Atom 3 for just north of $64,000.
