691HP Tesla Model S P85D Gets to 60 Quicker than Some Supercars
Last night in front of a packed house, Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, showed everyone his D. But before you start calling your congressman — seriously get your mind out of the gutter — it turned out to be a car that may just become one of the most sickest electric cars of all time. Let’s start with some figures for the Tesla S P85D; it's AWD and has 691 horsepower and 687 lb-ft of torque. Yes, that's almost 700 horsepower from a sedan. And an electric one at that. There's only a handful of other cars in that segment offering that much power. That includes the new Charger Hellcat. RELATED: See More of the Tesla Model S
This ludicrous number is provided by a dual motor setup (the "D"). It has the original 470-horsepower rear motor combined with a brand new 221-horsepower front motor. This not only makes for all season driveability, but also for a serious performer.
The D will actually be available for delivery by the end of the year. At the announcement, Musk had said that production already began about two weeks ago. Along with the new AWD system debuted last night, Musk also took the time to debut Tesla’s new autopilot system that uses so many cameras that it could probably direct the next Star Wars film.

Price for this bad boy starts at $120,000— but we don't doubt current Tesla owners are already chomping at the bit. Get it while you can. These things are bound to go fast. Pun intended.
