Next-Gen Porsche 911 Could Go Hybrid

Porsche seems determined to have hybrid power in just about every model, and CEO Matthias Muller seems to be fully in support of the idea. He told Australian outlet Car Advice that it could come to fruition for the 2018 911, which is expected to be fully redesigned. RELATED: See photos of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3

Alongside the 911, Muller also said the Boxster and Cayman could be in line for hybrid powertrains, but not before they get four-cylinder engines for their next generation. What Muller didn’t say—and what the source article doesn’t make clear—is whether a hybrid powertrain for the 911 would be standard or simply an available option. Given that the Panamera and Cayenne already have available hybrid power, and that Porsche purists will likely howl if the only powertrain is a hybrid, we’d expect a 911 hybrid to be available as an option and get the same E-Hybrid monikers as those vehicles. Stay tuned, Porschephiles. RELATED: See photos of the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S __________________________________________________ For More, Follow BoldRide on Twitter and Sign Up for Our Newsletter
