707HP Dodge Challenger Hellcat Nets Surprising 22 MPG
Because being the world’s most powerful production muscle car wasn’t enough. Yesterday, Dodge announced that the high-powered and highly vaunted Dodge Challenger Hellcat is back to make another big impact— this time at the pump. Despite its stratospheric 707-horsepower output, Chrysler has announced that the new Hellcat Challenger nabs an EPA-tested 22 miles per gallon on the highway, which is just short of unthinkable. The supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 achieves such ‘green’ figures thanks in part to the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission that follows it. The auto box features a 7.03 gear ratio spread, which allows the Hellcat to operate in its most efficient mode, more of the time.
Don’t like eight-speed autos? Chrysler says its new six-speed unit offers up 21 mpg with the Hellcat in tow.

To be fair, it’s a fuel economy leader (never expected that, did you?) amongst its high-powered contemporaries. The 700-horsepower Lamborghini Aventador Roadster nets 18 mpg while the 583hp Mercedes SLS AMG does one better at 19 mpg…the jury’s still out on the efficiency of the 650-horsepower Corvette Z06, though.
And starting at only $60,000, it costs significantly less than an Aventador, allowing you to pocket those 707 rampaging horses. What say you Dodge? To the Nurburgring?
