Ferrari is Building a Special Car for the U.S., Ironically

“Ferrari is now American, which represents the end of an era.” That’s what former Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemole had to say about the automaker before walking out for good earlier this week. Ironically, things are about to get even more ‘Merican at Ferrari. According to a new report from AutoExpress, in order to celebrate Ferrari’s 60th anniversary in the U.S., the automaker will be putting together a special car with only 10 examples being built. All will be destined exclusively for the U.S. There's no word on what it will be based on: 458 maybe? F12? PHOTOS: See More of the Stunning Ferrari F12berlinetta

To go with these special editions, Ferrari is “planning a major event in Los Angeles to bring together all our American clients and collectors, and a charity initiative.” This event will take place on Oct. 12. Strangely enough, the whole idea was enacted by di Montezemolo before he left the company last week. Current CEO Sergio Marchionne will continue Ferrari’s U.S. push, citing a 14.5 percent increase just last year. PHOTOS: See More of the High-Powered Ferrari 458 Speciale
