Toyota FT-1 Concept is Perfection in Graphite: Pebble Beach

There’s no denying that pretty much every expensive supercar on the planet is at Pebble Beach right now. And while you try and take in all the amazing automotive scenery that Monterey has to offer, there is one car that you should keep your eye out for while you’re there. And it’s a Toyota. The FT-1 Concept made its world debut earlier in the year at the Detroit Auto Show, and it was a shock to pretty much everyone. But a good shock nonetheless. This week, Toyota coated the FT-1 in a new graphite paint scheme, with a caramel leather interior, and unleashed it onto the lawn. PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 Toyota FT-1 Concept

“From the start of the FT-1 project, we wanted the driver to have a feeling of flow while at the wheel, to be able to focus on the road and nothing else,” said Sallene Lee, a creative designer at the Calty design studio. And while that may stand true of the concept’s appearance, no one will be able to actually get that feeling behind the wheel. At least not yet. The FT-1 is still in concept form for Pebble Beach, and no word on whether it will actually make it to production. Rumor has it that it could be a preview of a new Supra — but we’ll have to wait that one out and see for ourselves. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Toyota Supra Concept
