Aston Martin Vanquish, Rapide S Get Power Bumps for 2015
Aston Martin has figured out how to make its dynamic duo – the Vanquish and Rapide S – more powerful for 2015. It seems somewhat heretical but the pair also get more fuel efficient. Plus a dash of stunning is thrown in for good measure. The power bumps, in terms of acceleration and overall weight, can be tied to a new ZF-developed 8-speed automatic. Frankly, Aston Martins deserve to be driven with manuals but 8-speed automatics do restore 95% of the driving pleasure. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish Q
The new tranny helps flog the Vanquish from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. The Rapide S, Aston's four-door sedan, makes the 0-60 run now in 4.4 seconds.
According to Motoring.com.au, "Changes to the engine, including reduced exhaust back pressure, have resulted in slightly higher power figures (424kW for Vanquish, 412kW for Rapide S). Torque has also increased, by 10Nm, to 630Nm for both cars." In terms we're more accustomed to – 568 hp for the Vanquish and 552 hp for the Rapide S. Torque is 465 lb. ft. for both.

It pains us to do it when discussing pure driving machines like the Vanquish and Rapide S but the fuel efficiency improvement needs a brief mention (I know – but no one thinks about fuel efficiency when piloting an Aston Martin). Fuel consumption is improved by 11 percent.
The Vanquish will now average 18.3 mpg and the Rapide S 18.2 mpg thanks to the new transmission that replaces a 6-speed. Aston Martin has also included the newest Bosch engine management system and revised the final drive ratio.
