Hennessey Venom F5: America's 1,400HP, 290MPH Hypercar

Ho. Lee. Crap. This, my friends, is Hennessey’s 290 mph Venom F5, and it looks like a proper hypercar of epic proportions. Stylistically, it’s still a highly customized and stretched Lotus Elise, but Mr. Hennessey promises that his latest creation will be the company’s most extreme vehicle to date. Reports from Top Gear say that the 7.0-liter V8 could put out as much as 1,400 horsepower. All that power would propel a car that Hennessey hopes will weigh as little as 2,866 lbs (1,300 kg), giving it a power to weight ratio that exceeds 1,000 hp per ton. But don’t expect it to be just another bare bones speed car. Hennessey says that the Venom F5 will be fitted with a high-tech single-clutch paddle-shift transmission, and a GPS-based traction control calibrated to specific racetracks (that includes the Nurburgring). So how much will this American hypercar cost potential buyers? They’ll be dishing out $1.2M when the car goes on sale in 2016. But move quick, Hennessey will only build 30 of these super fast machines. PHOTOS: See More of the 2011 Hennessey Venom GT
