McLaren Teases 980HP Track-Only P1 GTR
The McLaren P1 GTR is officially here. Sort of. McLaren will unveil the P1 GTR in design form at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, on August 15. Until then, we’ll have to restrict ourselves to this two teaser images. The current road-going P1 boasts 903-horsepower, can hit 60mph in less than three seconds, and blitzes 186mph in less than 17 seconds. That’s mighty quick, but as they always do – buyers wanted more. In the track-only P1 GTR, buyers will undoubtedly get much, much more. Rumors suggest that the car is pegged to output over 980-horsepower, which could hurdle the beast to 60mph when paired with extra-gripy slick tires, in dare we say – close to two seconds? Straight-line speed will only be half the story too, as aerodynamic enhancements should plant the track-day P1 firmly on the ground, despite close to 1,000hp headed to the rear wheels.
McLaren restricted orders of the GTR solely to owners of the road-legal P1. Included with purchase of the P1 GTR come exclusive driver training programs, as well as vehicle support and maintenance. McLaren confirms production will begin in June, 2015, after the final road car has rolled off the assembly line.
The cost? An estimated $3.3 million. And the world holds its collective breath…
