Local Motors Is Building A Crowdsourced FR-S Fighter [w/Video]
Local Motors is one of the those automakers that's easy to love. The Rally Fighter (pictured) is essentially a completely badass, street-legal baja racer you can buy. And now, the small automaker is working on a rear-drive, front-engined sportscar that will probably be perfect in every way. Like the Rally Fighter and pretty much every project in the company’s portfolio, it’s going to be outsourced to the community. Fans will be able to vote on a suitable platform to which Local Motors engineers will build a body on top of it. PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 Local Motors Rally Fighter
As for options, buyers can pretty much build it however they like. Choice of A/C, stereo, cruise control, etc. will all be up to the customer. But there are a few things that Local Motors says will definitely be in the car; a turbocharged 250-horsepower engine, a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and a weight of somewhere near 1,600 lbs. Everything a proper sportscar should have.
If it’s half as good as it sounds, it might be an American FR-S fighter we’ve been looking for (albeit a bit more expensive). Either way, how freakin’ cool would that be? Tell us in the comments what you think they should use as a base (think Ariel Atom, KTM X-Box, etc.).
