Why the Camaro Z/28 Didn't Make 'Top Gear' Season 22

When we saw Top Gear Magazine’s teaser footage of the Camaro Z/28 melting rubber alongside a Nissan GT-R and a BMW M6, we anticipated it was a glimpse into the next season of Top Gear. We had visions of Jeremy, James and Richard taking the cars to some faraway location and tearing through ribbons of untouched tarmac. Lots of oversteer, lots of tire squeal, and plenty of powerrrrr.

Apparently the track-ready Camaro didn’t reach the British motoring program in time to make filming for the upcoming season, so you can put to bed thoughts of that segment living up to Top Gear’s other great Chevy moments – the C6 Z06 test, the ZR1 vs. the Audi R8, and of course who could forget Jeremy’s escape from Alabama. No, it’ll have to wait, but there is hope still. Even though the original 500 examples have been purchased already, GM intends to build 2,500 more Z/28’s through 2015, so perhaps a crack at the leader board isn’t out of the picture…yet.
