Jaguar, Porsche and Chevy: Driving Three Superb Convertibles

Yesterday our good friends at the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA) invited us down to Miami for an event that involved a little sun, a little sand, and some sexy convertibles. Better known as Topless in Miami, we were called upon to judge some of the market’s best drop tops. From Bentley to Jag to Fiat, there were so many great cars to choose from. But there were three that definitely stood out from the rest of the pack (click on the links to learn more). Jaguar F-Type
Jaguar, Porsche and Chevy: Driving Three Superb Convertibles
Price: $65,925+ Horsepower: 380 Hit the ignition switch and the supercharged V6 snarls like it's trying to scare everyone else off the road. This led to an inevitable grin spanning one ear to the other. The steering was sharp, the performance was intoxicating, and the whole thing just reminded us what a proper roadster is supposed to feel like. It was our favorite, surprisingly, even with the next heavy hitter… Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
Jaguar, Porsche and Chevy: Driving Three Superb Convertibles
Price: $194,600+ Horsepower: 560 It gets to 60 in under three seconds. It steers like a heat-seeking missile. And the turbocharged flat-6 is so blisteringly quick that it makes your eyeballs bounce off the back of your skull. We’d be shocked if the Porsche 911 Turbo S wasn't utterly fantastic in every way imaginable. It was fast, pretty, and we didn’t even mind the yellow seat belts (we actually sort of liked them). Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible
Jaguar, Porsche and Chevy: Driving Three Superb Convertibles
Price: $58,995+ Horsepower: 460 While Germany and the UK have their respective heavy hitters, us Americans can’t sit back and let foreigners have all the fun. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, with a proper seven-speed manual gearbox, actually beat out the Jaguar F-Type in its respective “Performance Convertible” class. With a 455 6.2-liter V8, and a price that undercuts the Jag, we can definitely see why. When the votes were tallied at the end of the night, these cars took home top honors at the event: Bentley Continental V8S - Luxury Performance Convertibles Audi RS 5 Quattro S Tronic Cabriolet - Luxury Convertibles Ford Mustang GT Premium - Full-Size Convertibles Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - Performance Convertibles Mazda MX-5 Anniversary Edition - Small Convertibles http://polldaddy.com/poll/8122401/
