Intense Crash at Start of Indianapolis Grand Prix [Video]

It is not the famous Indianapolis 500, but the IndyCar Indianapolis Grand Prix is an arguably more compelling race. Unlike the 500, where the cars go around in a big oval, the cars in the grand prix actually turn right too. Another reason is the large crash that occurred almost before the race even started.

Sebastian Saavedra was in the front row when the green flag dropped, but had some sort of electrical failure. This led to the other cars behind him taking evasive maneuvers, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Carlos Munoz and Mikhail Aleshin from getting caught up in the mess:

According to Jalopnik, a piece of debris struck Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard. Injuries were not serious, and though he left the race with his arm bandaged up, he was back at home, recovering and able to take to his twitter account
