Audi A3 Named 2014 World Car of the Year
This year, Chevrolet made a clean sweep of the North American Car and Truck of the Year, with the Corvette and Silverado, respectively. But those two awards are for mostly American sensibilities, and the rest of the world has little need for really either car. So with that in mind, it might make a little more sense that that Audi A3 was named 2014 World Car of the Year. The World Car of the Year is typically announced on the second press day of the NY Auto Show, and this year’s Audi win should come as little to no surprise. The larger A4 had grown even more so through the years, making the A3 really what the A4 once was; an attractive and capable compact luxury sedan. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Audi A3 Sedan
The A3 edged out the BMW 4 Series (our personal favorite), and the Mazda3 for the award. Given that the Mazda3 was also on the short list for North American car of the year as well, Mazda should feel pretty good despite not winning.

Other awards were announced as well, including World Green Car of the Year, and Car Design of the Year– both claimed by the BMW i3. While we would not dispute the former, we take issue with the latter– especially considering the i3’s big brother, the stunning i8.
Rounding out the awards were the Porsche 911 GT3 taking home World Performance Car of the Year, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class snagging World Luxury Car of the Year. We can’t take issue with either of these winners.
