McLaren Discontinues 12C and Offers Owners Free 650S Upgrade
Ah, the perks of owning a McLaren. If you’re the lucky enough to be in possession of a now aged 12C, McLaren is offering a free upgrade to the new 650S as it discontinues the 12C for good. Initially introduced as a mid-range sportscar, slotted above the 12C and below the P1, the 650S is now replacing the 12C altogether. With production now suspended on the 12C, McLaren engineers are expected to put in full force in production of the more-powerful and visually striking 650S. In an official release from McLaren, CEO Mike Flewitt announced that, “we have decided to cease [production of the 12C] in light of the success of the 650S.”

As for the free upgrades to current 12C owners, approximately 3,500 12C spiders and coupes were built since 2011 — all of which will qualify for the 650S upgrade. That’s a significant price bump from a brand new 12C ($239,000 to $265,000).
In case you forgot, the new 650S puts out 641 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged V8, and reaches 60 mph in three seconds flat. Not bad for a potentially free car.
