ABT Volkswagen Golf VII R: 370 Horses Worth of Hot Hatch Fun

The GTI has proven itself to be one of the most fun little hatchbacks on the planet. Even more so its hopped-up Golf R counterpart. But take the high-revving Golf R, put it in the hands of German tuners ABT Sportsline — and you have a Golf fit for the track. Giving the Golf R a mean new look, the ABT body kit comes with a new front grille, front splitter, headlight covers, mirror caps, handsome new dark ER-C wheels, and a subtle carbon fiber rear wing — just to name a few. It’s all tied together with a sultry blue paint scheme and black accents. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R

But it’s under the hood where the fun really starts. The already powerful 300 horsepower 4-cylinder engine found on the standard Golf R has been given a boost. 370 horsepower comes from under the hood; 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is managed in only 4.5 seconds, on to a top speed of 164 mph (265 km/h). Even fuel consumption remains the same as the standard Golf R.

ABT hasn’t announced pricing just yet for this one-of-a-kind Golf, nor a release date. But at 370 horsepower, we don’t doubt that it will be one insanely fun hot hatch. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 ABT Volkswagen Golf VII R
