Initial Run of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Sells Out in Just 3 Days
For years, some automotive experts have lauded the benefits of diesel. Though it was slow to catch on, it is the fueling method I have often recommended to those looking for improved fuel economy, but without removing performance from the equation. Apparently truck buyers are listening, as the Ram truck brand has just announced it sold 8,000 diesel trucks in just three days– filling the initial run of production. According to a statement from Ram, the 1500 EcoDiesel went on sale Friday, February 7. By the morning of Monday, February 10, the initial run of pickups had been sold out. Over that three day span diesel made up more than half of total Ram pickup orders. These orders were for the initial run, and subsequent customers will likely be able to get their hands on a 1500 EcoDiesel later in the year. PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 Ram 1500
Ram was quick to point out that the 1500 is the only half-ton truck available with a diesel engine, and that it combines 28 mpg highway with 9,200 pounds of towing.

The personally ordered pickups will take priority over the dealer truck deliveries. Once this initial run is built, the rest of the trucks will be built for dealerships. We’ll be very curious to see how diesel sales of this truck carry on through the year– and if other truck brands are watching.
