Hennessey Corvette Stingray: America's Sportscar Gets the Texas Treatment

'Ordinary' isn't a description usually reserved for the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The body lines are stunning, the 6.2-liter V8 is powerful, and as we've seen, it has some performance chops. But when comparing your standard Corvette Stingray to one procured by Texan tuners Hennessey, 'ordinary' seems to be the only word that makes sense. The two available Hennessey-tuned Vette's, the HPE500 and HPE600, both deliver a sufficient power boost to the already powerful Corvette. The 500 comes with stainless steel long-tube headers, high-flow cats, and midpipes. The 600, on the other hand, takes everything from the HPE500, and adds HPE-spec hydraulic roller camshafts. True to their name, the two products put out 500 and 600 horsepower, respectively.

These two new packages will propel your Stingray from 0-60 mph in a hasty 3.8 (HPE500) or 3.5 (HPE600) seconds. Top speed — it's estimated — is somewhere close to the 200 mph mark, if not more. The hopped-up Hennessey will make its public debut at the Dubai Motor Show at the end of the week, and will cost anywhere between $4,995 and $10,950 on top of your already purchased Corvette, of course.
