Pope Gifted 20-Year Old Renault by Italian Priest
The Popemobile is perhaps one of the most recognizable specialized VIP transport vehicles on the planet. The glass housing and white paint job has been a hallmark of the Pontiff’s public appearances. But what about a 20-year old Renault? Apparently with a new Pope, comes an old hatchback. The tenure of Pope Francis, though only in its early stages, has been characterized by his insistence on moving away from lavish dress, and expensive limousines. He has already earned praise for emphasizing a “Church for the poor.” And last weekend, Father Renzo Zocca presented the Pope with a 20-year-old Renault 4. RELATED: 1980 Mercedes-Benz Popemobile
Pope Francis said he had driven a Renault of the same model when he lived in his native Argentina. Now, he will be able to drive this Renault, with 190,000 miles on the odometer, when he is in Rome. Oh yeah, and of course, the paint job is white.
