Kia Debuts Off-Roading Hatchback Concept
If the recent Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Infiniti Q30 are any indication, automakers are bent on leaving no stone unturned in the creation of new vehicle segments. Not content with letting premium brands have all the fun, Kia debuted a high-riding compact hatchback. Dubbed the Niro, it's set for a live debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, next month.

Already, Kia has itself a competent compact car lineup, with the Forte and Rio variants. The Kia Niro Concept takes cues from those compacts, and puts it on a two-door hatchback with butterfly doors and a higher ground clearance, indicating the concept could be capable of taking to the trail.
Featuring stainless steel design elements, paddle shifters, and what appears to be an advanced navigation system, the Niro was crafted in Kia’s Frankfurt design studio, which is less than a kilometer from the IAA. Good news, considering the Niro Concept won’t have to travel far when it debuts live September 10.
